FyreSeal: fire resistant seal for sealing movement joints and cavities in buildings

FyreSeal ™ is a widely applicable fire-resistant seal developed for movement joints, also called dilatation joints or expansion joints. The flexible, rigid material can be used excellently as a fire-resistant seal in the seams of compartment floors and in / between walls where a fire-resistant barrier is required. The FyreSeal ™ can also be used between steel elements. The core of the material consists of highly compressible foam, making it a good seal in both narrow and large joints (max. 120 mm).

How does it work?

The FyreSeal ™ is made from a specially treated, compressible urethane type of foam that is impregnated with fire-retardant chemicals.

The foam consists of intermediate layers of graphite, which will expand around 190 C until a dense, insulating layer of char has formed. This foam will serve as a fire stop in the event of a fire and offers resistance up to 6 hours.

Due to the hard graphite layers, the material is the most compressible in the horizontal direction, but also offers resilience when it is subjected to pressure from other directions. FyreSeal ™ can therefore be used as a multi-directional fire seal; allowing movements from X, Y and Z directions (seismic construction applications)

Installation

The FyreSeal ™ is supplied in linear meters. Installation is simple: compress the FyreSeal ™ and press it manually into the joint so that it seals the two structural parts evenly.

The FyreSeal ™ is a suitable fire-resistant seal solution for all conceivable structural joints, seams and holes;

  • Expanding seismic moving joints
  • In between partitioning walls and floors
  • As a fire-resistant ‘cavity barrier’ in cavity walls and suspended ceilings, for example
